Writer's Cramp

Since the beginning of December, I have acquired a bad case of writer’s cramp!  My fingers are stiff, my writing is getting sloppy, and I now have a big bump on my middle finger from my pen.

So what has caused my latest malady?

I signed 582 thank you letters, representing about 103 contributions to our Widening Circles Society campaign and 479 additions to our various component funds. I have written a quite a few personal notes to some of our donors who are not feeling well, who have achieved professional and personal milestones, and who were highlighted in the local media for their volunteer work and humanitarian efforts.  I placed my signature on 152 grant and scholarship checks, representing more than $429,736.59 that will enhance our community in a myriad of ways and help students pursue their education so that their dream of a career can become a reality.  We created seven new funds at year-end and each fund had a corresponding fund agreement and donor information kit that needed to be signed.   I took pages and pages of notes as we conducted seven focus groups over the past few weeks. The participants in the focus groups gave us their unique perspective on Frederick County and areas in which the Community Foundation can have the greatest impact. (I’ll share more on this in a few months.)

Yes, my hand is sore and my head is sometimes spinning from all the activity at 312 East Church Street.  But, I must add, that my heart is full from the generosity of our donors, the commitment of our volunteers and trustees, and the impact from every grant and scholarship that makes our work For Good. Forever. For Frederick County.
