A Room Full of Hope

Our annual scholarship reception was held on June 12th at the Frederick Fairground’s e-ventplex, with over 550 donors, scholars, family members, Scholarship Committee members, volunteers, trustees and staff in attendance.  The room was electric with excitement as scholarship fund founders met the scholars who are receiving financial support from their respective funds.

The Null Building at the e-ventplex was ablaze with positive energy and the din of laughter, greetings, and chatter.

Then I experienced it.

You know, one of those surreal moments that hits like a lightning bolt of clarity and simplicity, and puts everything into perspective.

This room was full of people, but more importantly it was a room full of hope.  Hope was everywhere.  The scholars talked about their hope of doing well in their studies and earning dean’s list worthy grades.  The founding donors related their great hope in the scholars’ abilities to do well and hoped that the funds they created would make a difference in their scholars’ lives and in the community.  Some of our donors shared stories of their loved ones memorialized through their scholarship funds and hoped that their loved ones’ legacies would be carried on through the scholarships awarded each year.  Our Scholarship Committee members hoped that next year’s scholarship selection process will have as many well-qualified applicants as this year’s pool.  And, all were reinforced by the hope that our community will have a brighter future because of our donors’ generosity and the scholars’ abilities.

With the frequent negative media reports on today’s youth, it was very fulfilling to see this room full of promise and hope.

This room full of hope reinforces what the Community Foundation strives to achieve…awarding meaningful scholarships that are For Good. Forever. For Frederick County.
