Gifts of More Than Money

Gift giving has been in the spotlight as we’ve moved through the holiday season.  Stores have gifts at reduced prices.  Kids asked for gifts in their letters to Santa.  Solicitations for charitable gifts overflowed our mailboxes. But what about the giving of gifts throughout the year that don’t involve spending money. Our friend Dennis Cannon comes to mind.  Dennis gave the Community Foundation the gift of his time by volunteering for administrative tasks, filing, record-keeping and answering the phones as needed.  Sadly, he passed away earlier this year, but the echo of his gift is still with us.

McCutcheon’s Apple Products gifts their delicious jellies for us to include with holiday cards, birthdays and other occasions when donors make contributions to our component funds in the names of their loved ones.  McCutcheon’s gifts have been an integral part in making contributions special and memorable.  Have you received a McCutcheon’s package from us?  It makes a very memorable gift.

Our 24 trustees share many gifts with us throughout the year.  Each trustee was recruited to be on the Board because of their unique gifts that they are asked to share with us.  Whether it is professional expertise or a distinctive perspective, our trustees are on-call for help every day during their three-year term.

Our staff is truly a gift.  Each one brings an energy and a commitment that makes the Community Foundation run efficiently and effectively.  Their collective gift for making our donors welcome and at-ease is one that is shared with all who contact our office.

And lastly, but far most importantly, there are the gifts that our donors share with us throughout the year.  In addition to their financial contributions, they give us feedback, encouragement to try new things or to stay on course, and their stories to be shared with future generations when grants or scholarships are awarded from their funds.

All of these gifts make us work harder because we know that these gifts are given and shared with us to create positive impact that is For Good. Forever. For Frederick County.
