Dr. V.E. Gladstone Thompson

Dr. V.E. Gladstone Thompson was born in Trinidad and graduated from Howard University’s Dental School in Washington, D.C. In the 1950s, he made Frederick his home, where he opened a dental office and pursued a 37-year career in the field. He was only the second black dentist in Frederick. In addition to his dental practice, he was an active community volunteer on behalf of the NAACP, Citizen’s Nursing Home and Asbury United Methodist Church. Dr. Thompson served as president of the Frederick County Dental Association and the Human Relations Commission in Frederick. He was a member of the Pro-Duffers Golf Club. To help others pursue their own dreams of becoming a dentist, wife Gloria H. Thompson and daughter Sonya D. Thompson established The Dr. V. E. Gladstone Thompson Memorial Scholarship Fund to award annual scholarships to graduate students pursuing dentistry at Howard University Dental School.
