Urban Gardens Grant Application Open Through March 15, 2012

Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs Receives Grants
Frederick, MD – January 24, 2012: The Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs recently received a $2,910.42 grant from The Bar Association of Frederick County Current Initiatives Fund, a component fund of The Community Foundation of Frederick County. Community Foundation Provides First Grants Based on Needs Assessment Study
FREDERICK, MD – December 19, 2011: The Community Foundation of Frederick County has presented its first strategic grants totaling $185,617 based on the Frederick County Human Needs Assessment Study. The study, released in August 2011, was initiated to provide an unbiased report of the most pressing human needs in Frederick County. The Baltimore Neighborhood Indicators Alliance, with Johns Hopkins University, conducted the study, paying particular attention to the areas of health, basic human needs, and youth issues. These grants, combined with the Community Foundation’s recent discretionary grants of $77,349 to 31 area nonprofits, combine to total more than $262,000 invested back into the community.

$220,000 Raised Since 2000 for Julie Ann Robertson Cashour Memorial Fund
FREDERICK, MD – October 28, 2011: In just 11 years, more than $220,000 has been raised for The Julie Ann Robertson Cashour Memorial Fund with proceeds from the Julie Ann Robertson Cashour (JARC) Memorial Golf Tournaments. The 2011 JARC Memorial Golf Tournament, held on June 10, 2011 at Whiskey Creek Golf Club in Ijamsville, MD hosted 122 golfers and raised $27,500. The fund is one of more than 615 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County and honors the memory of the late Julie Ann Robertson Cashour, who succumbed to neurofibromatosis at the age of 36.

Homewood at Crumland Farms Receives Grant for Willows Memory Care Unit
FREDERICK, MD – November 9, 2011: A grant in the amount of $25,499.76 was made recently to Homewood at Crumland Farm, from The Geraldine Virts/Jack Brady Memorial Fund for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders, one of more than 615 funds managed by The Community Foundation of Frederick County. The grant supports Homewood’s Willows Memory Care Unit for residents with Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia. Since 2002, the fund established by Edgar Virts in memory of his wife, Geraldine, and his coach and mentor, Jack Brady, has provided almost $200,000 in grants for the Willows Memory Care Unit. FREDERICK, MD – October 12, 2011: Grace Episcopal Church in Brunswick, MD received a wonderful gift when they learned they were the beneficiaries of a bequest from the estate of Elizabeth Baker Karn McDermott of Brunswick. With a portion of this bequest, the church turned to The Community Foundation of Frederick County to create The Grace Episcopal Church in Brunswick Fund.
Community Foundation Participates in Employee Giving Campaigns
Frederick, MD – October 11, 2011: Public sector employees once again have an opportunity to support the community where they live by directing their donations to The Community Foundation of Frederick County through employee giving campaigns. Donations from employee giving campaigns to the Community Foundation will be used toward its work in creating community outreach to promote philanthropy, allowing it to continue its legacy of giving by awarding grants to worthy nonprofits and scholarships to deserving students. Brunswick Main Street Receives Grant for Bike Racks
Frederick, MD – October 3, 2011: Brunswick Main Street recently completed installation of bike racks at locations near the C&O Canal towpath, where bicyclists enjoying the towpath stop in Brunswick to rest, eat, and buy supplies. Community Foundation of Frederick County Earns Rankings in Two “Top 100” Lists
Frederick, MD – July 5, 2011: The Community Foundation of Frederick County has ranked within the top 100 community foundations nationwide for fiscal year 2010 in a recent report published by Community Foundation Insights, a division of FSG Social Advisors. The report, “Benchmarking Beyond Asset Size,” compared information to identify the “Most Active Grantmakers” by distribution rates, “Most Gifts per Capita,” and “Most Activity Volume.” The data was used as a way to assess impact and accomplishments, rather than ranking community foundations using the traditional benchmarks of total grant amounts, contributions and investments.
