1LT Rob Seidel was a graduate of Catoctin High School and the United States Military Academy at West Point. He served as a platoon leader with the 10th Mountain Division in Iraq. On May 18, 2006, 1LT Seidel and three other troops were killed in action when a roadside bomb detonated near their vehicle during combat operations in Iraq. His parents, Bob and Sandy Seidel, created the fund to honor 1LT Seidel’s memory and his great respect and admiration for the troops serving their country.
Through the fund, contributions have been made to the Yellow Ribbon Fund, Inc., which assists injured service members and their families while they recuperate at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. Recently, a grant from the fund supported the Homes for Our Troops Build Brigade that constructed a new home for a local wounded soldier and his family.
