Flowers Over Frederick Fund Established with Community Foundation

FREDERICK, MD: July 5, 2011: The many thousands of residents and tourists walking the streets of downtown during the spring and summer months have long enjoyed beautiful hanging baskets and other plantings organized by the Flowers Over Frederick Club. To permanently provide community support for this project, The Flowers Over Frederick Fund has been established with The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The fund will support the hanging flower baskets and general flower maintenance in downtown Frederick. "So many people have played a role in bringing the flowers into downtown Frederick,” said Amy Clapp, Flowers Over Frederick Co-Chair. “This new fund allows us to move into the next phase and provides the means to permanently secure this project for everyone to enjoy for many years to come."

Nancy Mackintosh, Flowers Over Frederick Co-Chair said “People are surprised to learn that the hanging flower baskets are solely funded by community support.  The new fund with the Community Foundation will make it easy for individuals, clubs, and businesses to make donations to support this annual downtown beautification project."

The Flowers Over Frederick Fund is one of more than 600 component funds of the Community Foundation.  Funds support human services, faith based organizations, the arts, environmental causes, historic preservation efforts, health care providers, animal welfare groups, educational institutions, scholarship programs, and other civic causes that benefit Frederick County.  Last year, the Community Foundation awarded more than $3.3 million in grants and scholarships through these funds which are supported by individuals, businesses, nonprofits, and service organizations.
