Community Foundation of Frederick County Earns Rankings in Two “Top 100” Lists

Frederick, MD – July 5, 2011: The Community Foundation of Frederick County has ranked within the top 100 community foundations nationwide for fiscal year 2010 in a recent report published by Community Foundation Insights, a division of FSG Social Advisors.  The report, “Benchmarking Beyond Asset Size,” compared information to identify the “Most Active Grantmakers” by distribution rates, “Most Gifts per Capita,” and “Most Activity Volume.” The data was used as a way to assess impact and accomplishments, rather than ranking community foundations using the traditional benchmarks of total grant amounts, contributions and investments.

The Community Foundation ranked 59th in “Most Gifts Per Capita” category, with a gift per capita of $32.14, calculated by dividing the foundation’s total gifts by the population of the foundation’s service area of 237,000.  It also ranked 65th in “Most Activity Volume,” which represents the number of gifts and grants processed annually. More than 700 community foundations operate in the United States, each working with generous citizens to create charitable funds that support a wide array of community causes in a specific geographic area.

“This is the second consecutive year the Community Foundation has been recognized in this report’s top 100 community foundations,” stated Kathleen M. Davis, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “As we prepare to celebrate the organization’s 25th anniversary in November, this report again affirms The Community Foundation of Frederick County is focused on the long-term positive impact that its grants and scholarships create here at home.”
