Gregory Joseph Troy Scholarship Awarded by Community Foundation
FREDERICK, MD- July 12, 2011: The first scholarship from The Gregory Joseph Troy Memorial Fund has been awarded to Alexander Simmons. The fund is one of more than 600 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The fund was created in 2010 with the Community Foundation in memory of Gregory Joseph Troy by his mother, Susan Best, and his brother Joshua Troy. The scholarships from this fund will support the future training of police officers in the fields of criminology, police work, law enforcement, and investigative sciences.
Alexander Simmons, a 2011 Governor Thomas Johnson High School graduate, plans to attend Frederick Community College and study criminal justice. “Law enforcement has been a big part of my high school years and it has helped me make good decisions in school,” said Simmons. “I intend on making my family proud of the decisions I will make with this career and also make the donors proud of what they have given me.”
Since 1986, The Community Foundation of Frederick County has provided more than $26 million in scholarships to area students who might otherwise not be able to attend college or trade school and grants to area nonprofits serving the community. This tremendous accomplishment is a direct result of generous donors who touch the future with each donation, leaving a positive impact of lasting change for the Frederick County community.
