FREDERICK, MD- July 18, 2011: The first scholarship from The Kay Shafer Memorial Scholarship Fund has been awarded to Ryan Simons. The fund is one of more than 600 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The fund was created in 2009 by principals and staff of Linton Shafer Warfield & Garrett, P.A. in memory of Kay Shafer, the wife of one of the firm’s founding principals, Ron Shafer. Scholarships from this fund are awarded to graduating seniors from Frederick County Public Schools who plan to attend Frederick Community College.
Ryan Simons, a 2011 graduate of Brunswick High School, plans to attend Frederick Community College to study criminal justice. “The money will definitely be put to good use as I pursue my education,” said Simons.
Since 1986, The Community Foundation of Frederick County has provided more than $26 million in scholarships to area students who might otherwise not be able to attend college or trade school and grants to area nonprofits serving the community.
