Community Foundation Awards $387,000 in Scholarships
FREDERICK, MD - July 15, 2011: The Community Foundation of Frederick County has awarded more than $387,000 to over 210 scholars for the 2011-2012 academic year. Scholars were recognized on June 12, 2011, at the Community Foundation’s 2011 Scholarship Reception held at The e-ventplex at The Frederick Fairgrounds. The reception was sponsored by Sandy Spring Bank.
The 2011-2012 Scholarship Selection Committee, comprised of 50 volunteers, reviewed more than 1000 universal comprehensive scholarship applications. “Through generous donors, the Community Foundation’s scholarship program continues to grow,” said Jack Tritt, Scholarship Committee Chair. “These donors have planted seeds that are helping students establish strong roots. Donors, family, friends, and the Community Foundation are watching with pride as these students branch out, start successful careers and become active community members.“
In addition to these scholarships, other Community Foundation funds annually award monies to many colleges and universities who select scholarship recipients independently. Music scholarships, supporting all types of music instruction for youth ages 5-25, are also awarded annually.
The 2012-2013 Universal Comprehensive Online Scholarship Application will be available on January 15, 2012. Please visit the Community Foundation’s website in January for information about the application process.
