Ross Family Scholarship Awarded by Community Foundation
FREDERICK, MD- July 20, 2011: The first scholarship from The Ross Family Charitable Pass Through Fund has been awarded to Amanda Goodman. The fund is one of more than 600 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The fund was created in 2010 by Norman and Melissa “Missy” Ross to award scholarships to Frederick County students pursuing a career in nursing. Mrs. Ross began her career as a nurse in 1981 and worked in the field for more than 28 years. Sadly, Mrs. Ross passed away in 2010 from breast cancer. Her legacy will live on through students receiving this scholarship.
Amanda Goodman, a 2011 graduate of Brunswick High School, plans to attend Salisbury University and study nursing. “I’m honored to have been selected to receive this scholarship in memory of Mrs. Ross,” said Goodman. “I will apply myself to my studies each and every day to honor her legacy.”
Since 1986, The Community Foundation of Frederick County has provided more than $26 million in scholarships to area students who might otherwise not be able to attend college or trade school and grants to area nonprofits serving the community. This tremendous accomplishment is a direct result of generous donors who touch the future with each donation, leaving a positive impact of lasting change for the Frederick County community.
