Community Foundation Accepting Grant Applications Beginning September 1

FREDERICK, MD – August 29, 2011: The Community Foundation of Frederick County announces that grants applications for the FY2012 year will be accepted beginning September 1, 2011. The application period will remain open through midnight on October 1, 2011. The total amount of Community Foundation funds available for the FY2012 year is $260,857.00.

Changes have been made to the FY2012 grant application process, and applicants are required to attend one of two training sessions. The first training will be held on September 9, 2011, 1 p.m. at the Bernard Brown Community Center, 629 North Market Street, Frederick. The second training will be held on September 19, 2011, 1 p.m., at the Creekside Conference Center, 50 Citizens Way, Suite 303, Frederick. The new grant cycle, which has been redefined as a result of the Community Foundation’s recent Frederick County Human Needs Assessment Report, includes five grant areas: health needs, youth needs, basic human needs, unrestricted grant funding for needs not addressed in the health, youth, or basic human needs area, and designated funds, for specific purposes as defined by the donors who created the funds. To be eligible to apply, organizations must certify they are one of the following: a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; a government agency applying for an extraordinary project that is not funded by tax revenue; a religious organization requesting funding for non-sectarian activities, or a civic group that is not a 501(c)(3) requesting funding for a community cause.
