Rotary Club of Southern Frederick County Establishes Scholarship Fund
FREDERICK, MD – September 2, 2011: The Rotary Club of Southern Frederick County has established a new scholarship fund with The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The Rotary Club of Southern Frederick County Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships to Frederick County residents enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution, with preference given to students attending Frederick Community College who have been accepted into a program leading to a nursing degree or related health field. Preference will also be given to applicants with financial need and who have demonstrated community service. In addition, the scholar should be willing to participate in a mission project with the Rotary Club.
“The scholarship fund supporting the health care field is synergistic with Rotary International’s focus on disease prevention and treatment, and maternal and child health,” said Nathan Harris, President of the Rotary Club of Southern Frederick County. “Creating a fund that will perpetually award scholarships is very rewarding for our club. We hope this small effort will make a big difference to deserving students.”
The Rotary Club of Southern Frederick County, established in 2009, is the newest Rotary Club in Frederick County and serves professionals and businesses in the Urbana, New Market, Green Valley, and southern part of the county. “We wanted to give Southern Frederick County a voice, and we wanted that voice to have a charitable tone,” said Mr. Harris. “It’s now easier for people who wish to participate in a service club in this area to do so, and we look forward to the many ways we will give back to the community.” For more information about the Rotary Club of Southern Frederick County, visit their fan page on Facebook under the Southern Frederick Rotary Club.

Funds support human services, faith based organizations, the arts, environmental causes, historic preservation efforts, health care providers, animal welfare groups, educational institutions, scholarship programs, and other civic causes that benefit Frederick County.
