Both are Brunswick High School graduates, and for many years Mr. Shores gave a scholarship to a graduating Brunswick senior in his mother’s honor. Now, mother and son have combined their efforts and established The Shirley Shores Scholarship Fund with The Community Foundation of Frederick County to provide assistance for students to study at the post-secondary institution of their choice.

“It’s hard for students to afford college these days,” said Mr. Shores. “Every little bit helps and I’m glad to be able to give back to the community and support Brunswick High School graduates.”

Mrs. Shores, an active community volunteer in Brunswick and Frederick County, said “It’s a pleasure to provide support and help Brunswick High School graduates achieve their post-secondary education goals. Jeff and I enjoy giving back to our alma mater.”

Since 1986, The Community Foundation of Frederick County has provided more than $29 million in scholarships to area students who might otherwise not be able to attend college or trade school and grants to area nonprofits serving the community.  This tremendous accomplishment is a direct result of generous donors who touch the future with each donation, leaving a positive impact of lasting change for the Frederick County community.  For additional information about the Community Foundation, please call 301.695.7660.
