FREDERICK, MD – October 18, 2011:The Community Foundation of Frederick County will celebrate 25 years of service to Frederick County on Thursday, November 17, 2011. This year’s 25th Annual Report to the Community, themed “Community Works….Imagining What’s Next,” will be held at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center at the Francis Scott Key Mall, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The Community Foundation was the vision of Donald C. Linton, supported by his friends and colleagues Charles V. Main and W. Jerome Offutt. They believed that Frederick County could support a community foundation whose mission would be to provide scholarships deserving students and grants to nonprofits. The vision became reality in December 1986 when the articles of incorporation were received, and the new Board of Trustees set to work to raise the funds needed, kicked off by an anonymous gift of $10,000.
What started out as a box of paperwork stored under Mr. Linton’s desk now has a 25 year history of success. Most importantly, the Community Foundation has invested more than $29 million back into Frederick County, providing vital support to the place that thousands call home.
The 25th Annual Report to the Community will feature a video presentation highlighting its history, and will thank its donors and report on its accomplishments during the prior fiscal year. In addition, the 2011 Wertheimer Fellows for Excellence in Volunteerism will be honored. Those interested in attending the annual meeting and learning more about the Community Foundation or the Wertheimer Fellows for Excellence in Volunteerism are encouraged to call 301-695-7660.
