$220,000 Raised Since 2000 for Julie Ann Robertson Cashour Memorial Fund
FREDERICK, MD – October 28, 2011: In just 11 years, more than $220,000 has been raised for The Julie Ann Robertson Cashour Memorial Fund with proceeds from the Julie Ann Robertson Cashour (JARC) Memorial Golf Tournaments. The 2011 JARC Memorial Golf Tournament, held on June 10, 2011 at Whiskey Creek Golf Club in Ijamsville, MD hosted 122 golfers and raised $27,500. The fund is one of more than 615 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County and honors the memory of the late Julie Ann Robertson Cashour, who succumbed to neurofibromatosis at the age of 36.
In keeping with the fund’s charitable purpose, a recent grant in the amount of $10,935.30 benefits Neurofibromatosis, Inc. Mid-Atlantic for Camp New Friends. The camp offers children and teens with neurofibromatosis opportunities to build self-confidence, establish friendships with other children affected by the disease, and gain a better understanding of their condition. Since 2007, grants from the fund supporting Camp New Friends exceed $35,000. The fund has also provided grants supporting organizations such as the National Neurofibromatosis Foundation in New York, Kline Hospice House in Frederick, Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, the Brain Tumor Society, and The NF Cure Project.
“When we started the JARC Memorial Golf Tournament in 2000, I had no idea how it would be received by the local community,” said Jeff Robertson, Julie’s brother. “My family and I continue to be amazed and humbled by the outpouring of generosity each year. With the support of the community, we’ve been able to accomplish many things in Julie’s name, and touch many lives. It is validation that this was the right thing to do in honor of my sister.”
