Fundraiser to Support Join the Band Fund

FREDERICK, MD – December 9, 2011: An evening of rock, blues and soul on December 21, 2011 will benefit The Join the Band Fund, one of more than 615 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

Local and international musicians Shawn Dennison, John Sharrer, Steve Kemp, and Scott Devours are joining forces to raise monies to support the fund that purchases musical instruments for Frederick County public school students to participate in school instrumental music activities. The event, scheduled from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., will be held at Home at Braddock Inn, 4830 Schley Avenue, Braddock Heights, MD. Donations of $10 per person are requested.

Dennison, Sharrer, and Devours all graduated from Frederick County public schools, and were very active in school music programs. They, along with Kemp, share a deep commitment to ensuring that every student who wants to participate in instrumental music activities, regardless of economic status or family situations, has the opportunity. Devours, a 1985 graduate of Middletown High School, has achieved great success as a professional drummer and most recently toured with Roger Daltrey’s band, lead singer with The Who. The tour included appearances with Eric Clapton’s 2010 concert season. Devours has also recorded, performed and toured with such artists as Duran Duran, Beastie Boys, Creed, Oleander and Honey Honey.

“I am very excited about this year’s event,” said event organizer and fund representative Andy Carignan. “The support received for The Join the Band Fund has been tremendous. I am so grateful to everyone who shares our enthusiasm for providing instruments and helping these students experience the thrill of playing an instrument and making music.
