Community Foundation Provides First Grants Based on Needs Assessment Study
FREDERICK, MD – December 19, 2011: The Community Foundation of Frederick County has presented its first strategic grants totaling $185,617 based on the Frederick County Human Needs Assessment Study. The study, released in August 2011, was initiated to provide an unbiased report of the most pressing human needs in Frederick County. The Baltimore Neighborhood Indicators Alliance, with Johns Hopkins University, conducted the study, paying particular attention to the areas of health, basic human needs, and youth issues. These grants, combined with the Community Foundation’s recent discretionary grants of $77,349 to 31 area nonprofits, combine to total more than $262,000 invested back into the community.
The Community Foundation Board of Trustees approved grants that focus on impacting these needs assessment areas to the following organizations.
Strategic Funding for Health Needs:
Catoctin Community Medical Fund of the Thurmont Ministerium received $2,000 to provide prescription assistance.
Frederick County Health Care Coalition received $15,000 to provide care coordination for patients and $15,743 direct care health services.
Mental Health Management Agency of Frederick County, Inc. received $10,000 to support the
behavioral intervention home program for adolescent youth and families.
Mission of Mercy, Inc. received $9,000 to provide prescription assistance and $9,000 for Dental Care.
Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church received $5,000 to provide prescription assistance.
Seton Center, Inc. received $10,000 to support the DePaul dental care program.
Way Station, Inc. received $45,000 to support the medical home pilot program and medical staffing.
Strategic Funding for Basic Human Needs:
Advocates for Homeless Families, Inc. received $1,000 to provide assistance with security deposits.
Hope Alive, Inc. received $10,000 to support the transitional family shelter program.
Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church received $5,000 to provide shelter services.
The Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs received $24,000 to provide assistance with security deposits.
Strategic Funding for Youth Needs:
YMCA of Frederick County received $24,174 to support the Frederick County Head Start program, with this grant contingent upon the YMCA obtaining the contract to become
the Head Start service provider as of July 1, 2012.
