Muse Memorial Fund Provides Grants to Five Nonprofits; New Application Period Open

FREDERICK, MD – December 22, 2011: The Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund recently provided Courtney Muse Performing Arts Grants and Dustin Muse Youth Athletic Grants totaling $8,000 to five Frederick County nonprofits. The fund is one of more than 615 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

Courtney Muse Performing Arts Grants were provided to the following organizations:

24/7 Student Repertory Company: $1,200 for support of the Dance Fusion spring concert.

Project Alive of the Housing Authority of the City of Frederick: $2,400 to fund music lessons for youth in public housing.

Dustin Muse Youth Athletic Grants were provided to the following organizations:

Frederick Force: $1,000 for gym fees for the Frederick Force Basketball League. 

Middletown High School: $1,000 for a pole vault pit/hurdles landing pad.

Oakdale High School Band Boosters: $2,400 for an indoor floor guard.

A new application period for both grants opened on December 15 and continues through January 31, 2012. Athletic, sports, and performing arts organizations providing services to Frederick County youth under age 18 may apply for the grants. Both grants may support purchasing of equipment, capital improvements or purchases, and/or subsidizing participation fees. Click here for details and the grant application.

The Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund was established their parents, Pam Meehan and Don Muse who wanted to honor the legacy of these two exceptional children. Sixteen-year-old Dustin Muse was a well-known and highly-regarded scholar-athlete at Governor Thomas Johnson High School when he and his thirteen-year-old sister, Courtney, an enthusiastic member of the Monocacy Middle School chorus and honor roll student, tragically died in a car accident in December, 2006.

The Community Foundation works with individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to establish charitable funds that provide grants to area nonprofits serving the community and scholarships to students.
