Jefferson Ruritan Club Creates Scholarship Fund with Community Foundation
FREDERICK, MD – December 30, 2011: Continuing its tradition of service to the community and supporting youth, the Jefferson Ruritan Club has established The Jefferson Ruritan Club Scholarship Fund. The fund is one of more than 615 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The fund will provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors who reside in the 21755 zip code area of Jefferson, MD, are a child or grandchild of a Jefferson Ruritan Club member, or are a member of the Random Acts of Kindness Club with more than 75 volunteer hours with the Ruritan Club. “Our goal is to provide an opportunity for young people to achieve their academic goals,” said Juan Stull, Scholarship Committee Chair. “In addition, we hope they will gain a better appreciation of volunteerism and community service.”
Since 1977, The Jefferson Ruritan Club has provided more than 110 scholarships to Jefferson area youth totaling more than $104,000. Because of the many regulations now associated with administering scholarship programs, the Jefferson Ruritan Club turned to the Community Foundation to ensure the program’s viability and longevity
Scholarships will be presented for the 2012-2013 academic year, and students may apply beginning on January 15, 2012, using the Universal Scholarship Application on the Community Foundation’s website by clicking here.
The Community Foundation works with individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to establish charitable funds that provide grants to area nonprofits serving the community and scholarships to students. Since 1986, more than $29 million has been invested back into the Frederick County community. For additional information about the Community Foundation, please call 301.695.7660.
