Five Nonprofits Receive Grants Totaling $40,000 from Stephen Eshman and George Randall Fund
FREDERICK, MD: January 25, 2012: Five nonprofit organizations recently received grants totaling $40,000 from The Stephen J. Eshman and George E. Randall Memorial Fund, one of more than 615 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The following organizations received a grant: National Brain Tumor Society, $15,000; Operation Second Chance, $7,500; Hospice of Frederick County, $5,000; Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County, $2,500 and Maryland 4-H Club Foundation/Frederick County 4-H Beef, Sheep and Swine Club, $10,000.
The Stephen J. Eshman and George E. Randall Memorial Fund was founded by Dr. James M. Steinberg, Douglas F. Spingola, and William F. Orr to honor the memory of their friends, Dr. Stephen J. Eshman and George E. Randall. Dr. Eshman, a well respected doctor and humanitarian, and Mr. Randall, President of Randall Family LLC, both lost battles with brain tumors in 2003 and 2004, respectively.
“The fund was established to provide financial support for brain tumor research and local charities that were important to George and Steve,” said Mr. Orr. “The National Brain Tumor Society’s research is helping brain tumor patients, and George and Steve both received services from Hospice. We also knew that they would want to give back to wounded soldiers and their families and Operation Second Chance is doing great work to assist our veterans. Finally, children were very important to George and Steve, and Boys and Girls Club and Frederick County 4-H are excellent organizations supporting Frederick County youth.”
Memorial funds are one of the many ways The Community Foundation of Frederick County transforms the unique charitable dreams of individuals, families and organizations into the reality of charitable funds supporting a range of worthy causes. Over one-fourth of the funds held by the Community Foundation honor the memories of deceased loved ones by continuing to touch lives in meaningful ways. To date, the Community Foundation has provided more than $29 million in scholarships and grants throughout Frederick County.
