Community Foundation’s Frederick Mutual Insurance Fund Awards $7,700 in Grants to 16 Nonprofit Organizations
Frederick, Maryland – January 24, 2012: Sixteen nonprofit organizations recently received grants totaling $7,700 from The Frederick Mutual Insurance Company Donor-Advised Fund, a component fund of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
As a donor-advised fund, founding donor Frederick Mutual Insurance Company recommends which charitable causes to support, subject to the approval of the Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Each year, grants are awarded to area nonprofits working in the fields of human services, education, and historic research. The Fund was opened in 1994 with a $150,000 contribution from Frederick Mutual as part of the company’s 150th anniversary celebration, with the purpose of providing financial support for the betterment of the community.
Recent grants from The Frederick Mutual Insurance Company Donor-Advised Fund have been provided to the following organizations: Advocates for Homeless Families; The Arc of Frederick County; Food Resources, Inc.; The Historical Society of Frederick County; The Frederick Rescue Mission; Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County; Hospice of Frederick County; The Jefferson School; Maryland Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch; The National Museum of Civil War Medicine; The Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs; The Salvation Army; United Way of Frederick County; The Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Frederick County and The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

The Frederick Mutual Insurance Company Donor-Advised Fund is one of more than 615 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County. Funds support human services, faith based organizations, the arts, environmental causes, historic preservation efforts, health care providers, animal welfare groups, educational institutions, scholarship programs, and other civic causes that benefit Frederick County. Last year, the Community Foundation awarded more than $2.8 million in grants and scholarships through these funds which are supported by individuals, businesses, nonprofits, and service organizations.
