Urban Gardens Grant Application Open Through March 15, 2012

FREDERICK, MD – February 2, 2012:  Many people find time spent in a lovely garden setting to be relaxing and rejuvenating, and finding these spots in urban settings can be challenging. A new grant for the creation or restoration of urban gardens is now available through The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

The Urban Gardens Grant application is available through March 15, 2012, and can be accessed on by clicking here. The grant supports the creation or restoration of an existing garden and must incorporate native, edible, and perennial plants for year-round enjoyment. In addition, an area of reflection and relaxation must be incorporated into the garden design.

To be eligible for consideration, an organization must be an existing 501(c)(3) nonprofit, government agency, or religious organization that provides services to Frederick County residents. In addition, long-standing community service or civic groups without 501(c)(3) status that provide services to Frederick County residents may apply.  The application requires a drawing of the garden design, a complete plant list, and notation of the space designated for relaxation. Complete details are provided in the application.

The grant is funded by The Don Doughty and Linda Moran Fund, one of more than 615 component funds of the Community Foundation. Donations to the fund in support of this grant may be made through a secure, online contribution by clicking here. Checks made payable to The Community Foundation of Frederick County may be mailed to 312 East Church Street, Frederick, Maryland, 21701, with the name of the specific fund on the memo line. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
