Pancake Supper to Support 1LT Rob Seidel Wounded Soldiers Fund

FREDERICK, MD –February 6, 2012: A Fat Tuesday All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Supper will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 to benefit The 1LT Rob Seidel Wounded Soldiers Fund. The fund is one of more than 615 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

The supper will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at Trout’s Towne Restaurant in Woodsboro, MD. The menu will include pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and chipped beef gravy, along with hot and cold beverages. The cost of the event is $8, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting The 1LT Rob Seidel Wounded Soldiers Fund. Guests are also asked to bring a non-perishable food item to benefit Glade Valley Food Bank.

1LT Rob Seidel was a graduate of Catoctin High School and the United States Military Academy at West Point. He served as a platoon leader with the 10th Mountain Division in Iraq. On May 18, 2006, 1LT Seidel and three other service members were killed in action when a roadside bomb detonated near their vehicle during combat operations in Iraq. His parents, Bob and Sandy Seidel, created the fund to honor 1LT Seidel’s memory and his great respect and admiration for the troops serving their country.

Through the fund, contributions have been made to the Yellow Ribbon Fund, Inc., which assisted injured service members and their families while they recuperated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. The two hospitals have since been combined to form Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.  A grant was given to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Wolfsville, MD, to help the family of 1LT Chris Nichols, who was severely injured in a tank explosion and another grant from the fund supported the Homes for Our Troops Build Brigade that constructed a new home for a local wounded soldier and his family.

Those unable to attend the pancake supper may still support The 1LT Rob Seidel Wounded Soldiers Fund by making a secure, online donation here. Checks made payable to The Community Foundation of Frederick County may be mailed to 312 East Church Street, Frederick, Maryland, 21701, with the name of the specific fund on the memo line. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
