Alliance to MedChi Medical Scholarship Fund Announced

FREDERICK, MD – March 1, 2013: The Community Foundation of Frederick County announces a new scholarship fund that will support Maryland residents enrolled in an approved State of Maryland medical college. The Alliance to MedChi Medical Scholarship Fund becomes one of more than 630 component funds managed by the Community Foundation.

A statewide organization, the Alliance to MedChi is a communications vehicle between county and national alliances providing education, training, and support relating to the healthcare field to its members. Through its commitment to serve the healthcare community, both physicians and patients in Maryland benefit by having up-to-date information and the best medical care possible. Continuing the organization’s educational program, they appropriately established the fund to support future physicians.

"We are pleased to announce the beginning of an annual scholarship to Maryland medical students,” said Gail Johnson, fund founder. “The mission of the Alliance is to partner with MedChi in promoting and supporting the health, welfare and legislative action for Maryland's physicians and patients. We extend this mission to medical students, supporting them in their endeavor of providing quality healthcare to Maryland citizens."

The first scholarship will be presented in June 2013 for the 2013-14 academic year. At the time of application, applicants must provide proof of acceptance and/or enrollment in medical school and must also demonstrate financial need.

The Community Foundation of Frederick County is a recognized leader in providing scholarships to area students, made possible by generous donors who establish funds, or add to existing funds. For the 2012-2013 academic year alone, the Community Foundation provided more than $505,000 in scholarships to area students.
