The Bar Association of Frederick County Establishes Funds
With The Community Foundation

September 19, 2007: The Bar Association of Frederick County, Maryland, Inc. has created two charitable funds with The Community Foundation of Frederick County to further its efforts in providing pro bono legal services and in awarding grants to local nonprofits.

The first of these funds, The Bar Association of Frederick County Justice for All Fund, is a permanent fund that aims to ensure availability of competent legal representation for Frederick County residents regardless of their ability to pay.

Examples of possible grants from the Fund include funding to a legal services agency to cover the cost of an additional part time or full time attorney dedicated to Frederick County and serving Frederick County residents, a housing agency to cover settlement costs for first time home buyers, a nonprofit to cover the cost of training attorneys to assist with its work such as representing children in domestic cases or renters in landlord tenant cases, and organizations providing interpreters for persons with hearing disabilities or who do not speak English.

The second fund, The Bar Association of Frederick County Current Initiatives Fund, acts as a vehicle to collect, administer, and distribute contributions to support local charitable organizations. The Fund does so by supporting grants to nonprofit organizations and scholarships to area students.

Through these funds, the Bar Association strives to achieve a positive impact on behalf of its community. Anne-Herbert Rollins, President of the Bar Association, spoke for the members when she said, “We are all blessed to live in Frederick County where there is such a strong community and charitable spirit, and the Bar Association of Frederick County is happy to continue to be a part of those efforts.”

Since 1986, individuals, families, businesses, and organizations have turned to the expertise of the Community Foundation to establish charitable funds that award scholarships to deserving students and grants to nonprofit organizations. Contributions to The Bar Association of Frederick County Justice for All Fund and The Bar Association of Frederick Current Initiatives Fund are accepted at any time in any amount. Checks may be made payable to The Community Foundation of Frederick County and sent to 312 East Church Street, Frederick, Maryland, 21701. Insert the Fund’s name in the check’s memo line.
