Community Foundation’s Droneburg
Memorial Fund
Awards First Scholarship
July 18, 2007: Henry
Droneburg, III was a young man who lived life with a quiet kindness
that he extended to everyone he met. He had an ability to make
everyone around him smile. Henry also had a love of skateboarding and
shared his enthusiasm for the sport with his younger brother, Joseph,
to whom Henry was a role model. A 2006 Governor Thomas Johnson High
School graduate, Henry was also an exceptional artist who filled his
parents’ home with beautiful artwork.
Henry was on the verge of accomplishing great things when his life of
kindness, creativity, and endless potential was tragically cut short
in a car accident in March of this year, leaving a void in the
Frederick County community.
To honor the memory of this exceptional young man, Henry’s family
turned to the Community Foundation to establish The Henry E. Droneburg,
III Memorial Scholarship Fund to aid other aspiring artists who are
pursuing a post-secondary education in the visual arts.
The first Henry E. Droneburg Scholarship was recently awarded to
Michelle Graves, a 2007 graduate of Governor Thomas Johnson High
School. Michelle will be attending Ringling College of Art and Design
in the fall and will major in Computer Animation.
During high school, Michelle was a member of both the National Honor
Society and the National Art Honor Society. She was a graphic design
intern at AGV Sport where her ideas were used in apparel design for
world-class motorcycle riders.
“This scholarship is particularly meaningful to me, as I knew and
respected Henry as an artist,” says a grateful Michelle. “It will help
me to pursue my artistic endeavors at Ringling College of Art and
Design.”
Henry’s parents, Cindy and Henry Droneburg, Jr, say that Henry was a
true and beloved son and a friend who was loved by many. “We are proud
to honor Henry’s memory by helping students like Michelle Graves
achieve their educational goals.”
Over one-fourth of the funds held by the Community Foundation honor
the memories of deceased loved ones by continuing to touch lives in
meaningful ways in their names. To donate to The Henry E. Droneburg,
