Etzler Fund Opens at Community Foundation

December 12, 2007: Long-time Frederick County resident Dorothy (Dottie) Etzler believes in helping others and in honoring the legacy of her late parents, Norman and Edna Etzler, who tirelessly volunteered throughout their lifetime but especially at their home church, Frederick Church of the Brethren. The example her parents set made Dottie sensitive to the plight of others, especially the elderly of Frederick County who might need assistance, and to families struggling to feed their children. Dottie also loves cats and says she is particularly concerned for the feral cats roaming Frederick County.

Wanting to make a difference by honoring her family’s legacy of giving back to the community, Dottie turned to The Community Foundation of Frederick County to establish The Norman W., Edna V. and Dorothy L. Etzler Fund to honor her late parents and to provide grants to area nonprofit organizations serving the community in ways that are important to her.

Providing for animal welfare needs and health and human service initiatives are some of the many ways generous donors work with The Community Foundation of Frederick County to fill the needs of the community. As a trusted philanthropic organization in Frederick County, the Community Foundation has, since 1986, given more than $17 million in grants to area nonprofit organizations and scholarships to deserving students.
