Father Jordan Scholarship Fund
Established at Community Foundation

Father Herbert Jordan

May 8, 2007:  For more than ten years, Father Herbert Jordan taught Religion, English, and Latin to the students of Saint John’s Literary Institution, now known as Saint John’s Catholic Prep. He was well loved and respected by not only his students, but all of the Saint John’s community.

Sadly, Father Jordan died suddenly in 1958 at the age of 54, yet his former students still remember the impact he had on their lives. They wanted to honor Father Jordan’s memory by helping students at their alma mater. To do this, they turned to The Community Foundation of Frederick County to establish The Father Jordan Scholarship Fund for St. John’s Catholic Prep. The Fund will support scholarships to incoming freshman who have graduated from Saint John’s Regional School.

“The alumni of the school established the scholarship to pay tribute to Father Jordan’s many contributions to the school,” says Dr. Robert A. Pastoor, President of St. John’s Catholic Prep. “With this scholarship Fund, his legacy will continue by benefiting deserving students at Saint John’s Catholic Prep.”

The first scholarships from the Fund will be awarded for the 2007-2008 academic year.

The Father Jordan Scholarship Fund for St. John’s Catholic Prep is one of more than 130 scholarship funds held by the Community Foundation. Last year $360,000 was awarded in scholarships to Frederick County students.
