May 8, 2007: The Community Foundation’s
Rotary Club of Frederick Fund for the Frederick Senior Center recently
distributed $1,200 to the Frederick County Department of Aging. These
funds will enable the Frederick Senior Center to hosting a spring
dinner and dance, and to purchase not only large print books for its
library, but also card and classroom tables.
The Rotary Club of Frederick Fund for the Frederick Senior Center was
created to support the Frederick Senior Center and its services,
projects and activities that cater to seniors over 55. The recent
distribution to the Department of Aging is the first from the Fund.
As the Rotary Club’s “Signature Project” for the past three years,
Department of Aging Director Carolyn True says, “The members of the
Rotary Club of Frederick have been a wonderful resource to the
Department of Aging, not only with their financial gifts, but also
with their time.”
Of the nearly 5.3 million Maryland residents, 15 percent, or almost a
million people, are over the age of 60. This senior population is
expected to account for 23 percent of the population by 2030.
True says that the Frederick County Department of Aging expects to
serve 2,900 seniors this year alone and believes the Fund created by
the Rotary Club at the Community Foundation will continue to benefit
older adults well into the future.
Tony Checchia, President of the Rotary Club of Frederick, says that
service above self is the Club’s motto and that they like to put their
resources behind the community. “It’s about making a commitment to
helping the citizens served by the Frederick Senior Center.”
Since 1986, the Community Foundation has been weaving the fabric of a
better community by transforming the unique charitable dreams of
individuals, families and organizations into the reality of charitable
funds supporting a range of worthy causes in the community.
Contributions to The Rotary Club of Frederick County Fund for the
Frederick Senior Center are accepted at any time in any amount. Checks
