COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS OVER
$216,000 IN GRANTS

December 7, 2007: The Community Foundation of Frederick County recently awarded an unprecedented $216,812.05 in grants to area nonprofit organizations thanks to the many generous donors who turn to the Community Foundation to specifically support the community’s most pressing needs.

Each year, from August 15 to October 1, Community Foundation Comprehensive Grant Applications are posted online at www.cffredco.org. Applicants may apply for funding from the Community Foundation’s Unrestricted Funds and also from other Funds included in the grant cycle. Grant applications are then competitively screened and reviewed by the Community Foundation’s Grants Committee to recommend recipients for approval by the Board of Trustees. Grant consideration is given in funding capital purchases, new programs, one-time purchases, music programs, children with catastrophic circumstances, public relations efforts, camperships, and youth programs. Recipients are notified of their awards by December and typically have until October of the following year to spend them.

Grants Committee Chairman Clyde Crum says the Community Foundation’s Grants Committee carefully reviews each application. “So many worthy applicants request more funding than is available,” said Mr. Crum. “The Grants Committee has worked tirelessly to ensure that the grants awarded meet as many community needs as possible.”
