7th Julie Ann Robertson Cashour Memorial Golf Tournament Supports Grant for NF Cure Project

September 17, 2007: The 7th Annual Julie Ann Robertson Cashour Memorial Golf Tournament, held on June 8, 2007 at Whiskey Creek Golf Club in Ijamsville, raised $28,000 for The Julie Ann Robertson Cashour Memorial Fund, held by The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

The Robertson and Cashour families created The Julie Ann Robertson Cashour Memorial Fund to honor the memory of their beloved Julie, who succumbed to neurofibromatosis at the age of 36. Neurofibromatosis is an incurable, progressive genetic disorder of the nervous system that causes tumors to form on nerves anywhere in the body. The Fund provides grants to organizations serving individuals with neurofibromatosis or researching a cure for the disease, as well as those within the community coping with a terminal illness.

This year, using proceeds from the golf tournament, over $3,000 was awarded to the NF Cure Project, a nonprofit organization that focuses on finding effective therapies for neurofibromatosis as quickly as possible.

“Generous donations like this grant from The Julie Ann Robertson Cashour Memorial Fund allow us to sustain and expand our program to achieve our mission as quickly as possible, so that individuals affected by neurofibromatosis no longer suffer from the consequence of having the disease,” says Dr. William J. Knowles, Director of the NF Cure Project.

The Community Foundation is Frederick County’s premier organization for promoting local philanthropy and charitable giving, resulting in educational scholarships for deserving Frederick County students and grants to nonprofits to advance a range of worthy community causes. To date the Annual Julie Ann Robertson Cashour Memorial Golf Tournament has raised over $129,000. The proceeds have benefited many causes including the National Neurofibromatosis Foundation in New York, Kline Hospice House in Frederick, Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, the Brain Tumor Society, and Neurofibromatosis Mid-Atlantic, Inc. for Camp New Friends.
