Community Foundation’s Muse Fund
Supports Governor
Thomas Johnson High School Football Program
October 26, 2007: The
Governor Thomas Johnson Football Program recently purchased new
training equipment thanks to a donation from The Community Foundation
of Frederick County’s Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund.
A 7-man sled – a practice tool designed to help train the offense to
break through the defensive line – was secured because of the grant,
said TJ High Football Coach Ben Wright. The new equipment will help
the team improve blocking skills while limiting injuries and lost
playing time due to injuries.
The TJ High School Football Program lost their star quarterback when
sixteen-year-old Dustin Muse was tragically killed in a December 2006
car accident along with his sister Courtney. Their parents, Pam Meehan
and Don Muse, wanted to honor the memory of their bright and talented
children and established The Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund at
the Community Foundation with generous contributions from a grieving
community. The Fund honors the children’s memory by providing grants
and scholarships to support scholar/athletes and athletic and
performing arts programs – areas in which Dustin and Courtney
excelled.
“Dustin was one of our team leaders during the years that he played
for us and was always an example of what hard work and commitment will
do for you,” says Coach Wright. “This equipment, coupled with the
inspiration of having Dustin’s name on our team helmets, will be a
reminder that hard work and commitment lead to excellence.”
Since 1986, the Community Foundation has been filling the needs of the
Frederick County community by transforming the unique charitable
dreams of individuals, families and organizations into the reality of
charitable funds supporting a range of worthy causes. Over one-fourth
of the funds held by the Community Foundation honor the memories of
deceased loved ones by continuing to touch lives in meaningful ways in
their names. To date, the Community Foundation has provided more than
$17 million in grants and scholarships.
Contributions to The Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund may be
made payable to The Community Foundation of Frederick County, 312 East
Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701, with the Fund’s name inserted in
the check’s memo line. To donate online,

to the fullest extent of the law.
