April 9, 2007: The Community Foundation of Frederick County’s Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund donated $1,000 to the Governor Thomas Johnson High School Boys Lacrosse Program during a presentation before the TJ/Middletown match on March 27.

Surrounded by team members, Head Coach Dave Hawkins accepted the donation from Pam Meehan, Dustin and Courtney’s mother, and Community Foundation Trustee Meta Nash. He expressed his sincere gratitude on behalf of the Boys Lacrosse Team in accepting the donation made in Dustin’s memory. “Dustin and Courtney touched so many lives throughout this community and they will never be forgotten,” says Coach Hawkins.

Sixteen-year-old Dustin Muse was a well-known and highly-regarded scholar/athlete at Governor Thomas Johnson High School when he and his thirteen-year-old sister, Courtney, an enthusiastic member of the Monacacy Middle School chorus and honor roll student, were tragically killed in a car accident in December, 2006.

The Community Foundation’s Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund was established shortly after their deaths by their parents, Pamela Meehan and Donald Muse, through the generous contributions of a community who wanted to honor the legacy of these two exceptional children. The Governor Thomas Johnson High School Boys Lacrosse Program is the first beneficiary of grants from the Fund, created to provide scholarships to outstanding scholar/athletes demonstrating leadership qualities and grants support the performing arts.

"Dustin really enjoyed playing on the Boys Lacrosse Team at TJ," says Mrs. Meehan. “He will continue to have a positive impact on the team through this grant.”

Since 1986, the Community Foundation has been weaving the fabric of a better community by transforming the unique charitable dreams of individuals, families and organizations into the reality of charitable funds supporting a range of worthy causes in the community. Over one-fourth of the funds held by the Community Foundation honor the memories of deceased loved ones by continuing to touch lives in meaningful ways in their names. To date, the Community Foundation has provided more than $15 million in grants and scholarships.

Contributions to The Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund may be made payable to The Community Foundation of Frederick County, 312 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701, with “The Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund” inserted in the check’s memo line.
