New Fund at Community Foundation to
Benefit Cross Country Athletes
January 15, 2008: The Community
Foundation of Frederick County is pleased to announce that long-time
Frederick educator and coach Bill Price and his wife Lynne have
created The William B. Price, Jr. Scholarship Fund to benefit
graduating seniors of Frederick High School who have participated on
the Cross Country Team.
Mr. Price taught physical science and chemistry at Frederick High
School for many years and was the Boys Cross Country and Track Coach,
continuing to coach even beyond his teaching retirement in 1999. He
said that as a runner himself, and having run road races and
marathons, he has always been attracted to distance running.
“This scholarship fund is a meaningful way to recognize the very
special athletes of Frederick High’s Cross Country Team,” said Mr.
Price. “Not everyone wants to run three miles. If students are ready
to step up and meet this challenge, I am willing to share my good
fortune with them as they pursue a college education.”
The first scholarships from the William B. Price, Jr. Scholarship Fund
will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year. Application
information will be available beginning December 15, 2008.
As a leading philanthropic organization, the Community Foundation has
awarded over $17 million in scholarships to deserving students and
grants to worthy nonprofit organizations since 1986 by working with
generous citizens who want to create positive and lasting change
throughout Frederick County.
