Over $2,000 Donated To Community Foundation Join The Band Fund

December 10, 2007: With toes tapping, hands clapping, and music in the air, over 200 people were on hand November 23 at G. Hunter’s Restaurant & Raw Bar to raise money for The Frederick County Public Schools Current Initiatives/Join the Band Fund held by The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

Andy Carignan led the charge to raise awareness of and monies for the Fund as he and his Wise Guys Band mates, Bill Curtis, Chris Rollins, and David Graf, performed classic rock songs spanning five decades of music.

“We raised over $2,000 at the event,” said Carignan, “with a requested $10 donation at the door. In fact, columnist Mark Butt and his brother Don helped at the door, and then Mark performed a 10 minute stand-up comedy routine for us.”

Andy Carignan partnered with Frederick County Public Schools and the Community Foundation in 2004 to establish The Join the Band Fund to purchase instruments for students, regardless of economic status or family situation, so that they could participate in instrumental music activities within Frederick County Public Schools.

“Every child should have the opportunity to become involved in instrumental music,” Carignan said, noting the important part music has played in his life. “Contributing to The Join the Band Fund is an important way to help any child who not only wants to join their school’s band, but has the talent and desire to play an instrument and cannot afford one to learn on,” said Carignan.

Educational initiatives like The Frederick County Public Schools Current Initiatives/Join the Band Fund are one of the many ways The Community Foundation of Frederick County works with generous donors to fill the needs of the community by providing scholarships to deserving students and grants to worthy nonprofits through the funds it holds.
