New Scholarship Fund
at Community Foundation Honors Long Time Church Member
December 9, 2008: The Community Foundation of Frederick County is pleased to announce that St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Utica, Maryland has created The Aimeé Bell Harper Scholarship Fund to benefit graduating seniors who are members of its congregation.
The Fund honors the memory of the late Aimeé Bell Harper, a long-time teacher and librarian in Montgomery County schools, and a devoted member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and helped to create the Church’s beautiful library, still in use today some 40 years later. Through her estate provisions, she left a bequest to the Church to provide scholarships to its members, and the Church then turned to the Community Foundation’s guidance and expertise to establish the Fund in accordance with her wishes.
“On behalf of the Church, we felt the best vehicle to disperse the money was The Community Foundation of Frederick County. The Community Foundation is the most professional, safe way to ensure deserving students receive this scholarship,” said Louise Ediger, Ms. Harper’s friend and a member of the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.
“We hope the children will use this scholarship toward their benefit, so that they in turn will try to continue to help support the Church, and will offer their return service to it,” said Mrs. Edinger.
The first scholarships from The Aimeé Belle Harper Scholarship Fund will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year. Scholarship application information will be available beginning December 15, 2008, when the Community Foundation’s Universal Scholarship Application is posted on its web site at www.cffredco.org.
As a leading philanthropic organization, the Community Foundation has awarded over $19 million in scholarships to deserving students and grants to worthy nonprofit organizations since 1986 by working with generous citizens who want to create positive and lasting change in their community.
