Community Foundation’s Brady West Memorial Scholarship Fund Receives Donation from Alter Ego Salon

February 15, 2008: Alter Ego Salon recently donated $350 to the Community Foundation’s Brady West Memorial Scholarship Fund after holding an Angel Tree fundraiser in December, selling candy canes to decorate a tree with message tags for young Brady West who passed away on March 23, 2007 at the age of four months.

Alter Ego Salon owners Erin and Bruce Hanson said they decided to have the fundraiser because Brady’s aunt, Stacy Kerns, is an employee at the Salon, and that Brady’s mother, Jaime Sweeney, also works there on Saturdays.

“Our employees are like family to us,” the Hansons said, “and we like to give back to the local community. The Brady West Memorial Scholarship Fund is a good cause, and we are happy to know our donation will help local students.”

Thurmont’s Jaime Sweeney and Johnny West created the fund to honor the memory of their son Brady by providing scholarships to Catoctin High School graduating seniors. The first scholarship from the Fund will be awarded for the upcoming 2008-2009 academic year. Those interested in applying for The Brady West Memorial Scholarship can apply by the March 1, 2008 deadline. To download the Universal Comprehensive Scholarship Application, click here.
