Community Foundation’s Citizens Care &
Rehabilitation Center
and Montevue Home Fund Receives Donation
March 14, 2008: The Community Foundation
of Frederick County recently received a sizeable donation from former
Frederick County Commissioner Don Lewis to its Citizens Care &
Rehabilitation Center and Montevue Home Fund to help the residents of
these first-class, County-run facilities by providing funding to
supplement patient care.
Both Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center and Montevue Home have
been serving Frederick County citizens and seniors with limited income
for decades. Citizens Care provides short and long-term rehabilitative
care, and Montevue Home is an assisted living facility currently
serving 60 residents. An expansion and renovation of both facilities
is presently underway to better serve Frederick County residents.
“However, both facilities are in need of funding beyond what the
government provides,” said Mr. Lewis, who noted that Citizens and
Montevue are vital to the well being of the residents of Frederick
County. “We can never do too much for those in need,” he said.
Mr. Lewis noted that oftentimes people who need the services of both
facilities have outlived their families and their financial resources.
“They are no less deserving of care and compassion,” Mr. Lewis said.
“I hope many people will do the same as I have – contribute to this
very important Fund at the Community Foundation.”
Well-known community businessmen and former Citizens Care board
members Don Linton and Charles Trunk joined forces with the Community
Foundation to create not only The Citizens Care & Rehabilitation
Center and Montevue Home Fund to supplement patient care, but also
created The Friends of Citizen Care and Rehabilitation Center and
Montevue Home Fund which will provide for small capital purchases for
both facilities.
“The citizens of Frederick County are lucky to have such exceptional
County facilities, and the renovation and expansion to meet current
standards of care are long overdue,” said Mr. Linton. “Mr. Lewis’
donation has set the bar for what needs to be done. It’s a tremendous
opportunity for our citizens to get involved and for the County
government to take notice.”
