Golf Tournament to Benefit Community Foundation Fund

May 9, 2008: The Second Annual Stephen J. Eshman and George E. Randall Memorial Golf Classic will be held on Friday, June 27, 2008, at Musket Ridge Golf Club, Myersville, Maryland to benefit The Stephen J. Eshman and George E. Randall Memorial Fund at The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

Morning and afternoon shotgun starts, a raffle and silent auction, as well as team and individual prizes are included in the $200 individual and $750 team registration fee. Former Community Foundation trustee, George E. Randall, President of Randall Family LLC and editor and publisher of the Frederick News-Post, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and passed away in May of 2004 at the age of 52. In a tragic twist of fate, Dr. Stephen J. Eshman, who had diagnosed George Randall with the brain tumor, passed away from a similar brain tumor in July 2003.

To honor the memory of these two distinguished men, their friends, Dr. James M. Steinberg, Douglas F. Spingola and William F. Orr, established The Stephen J. Eshman and George E. Randall Memorial Fund to award grants for the research of brain tumors and to provide assistance for patients with brain tumors.

Since 1986, generous citizens seeking to create positive and lasting change throughout Frederick County have depended upon the credibility and expertise of the Community Foundation to fulfill philanthropic dreams that benefit a variety of causes. Over one-fourth of the funds held by the Community Foundation honor the memories of deceased loved ones by continuing to touch lives in meaningful ways in their names. To date, more than $17 million has been awarded in grants to area nonprofit organizations and in scholarships to students seeking to further their education.

Contributions to The Stephen J. Eshman and George E. Randall Memorial Fund are accepted at any time in any amount.
