Rotary Club of Frederick Fund
Accepting Scholarship Applications through March 31
February 15, 2008: The Community Foundation of Frederick County is
pleased to announce that The Rotary Club of Frederick is now accepting
scholarship applications for the 2008-2009 academic year for its
Rotary Club of Frederick Fund.
Each year, The Rotary Club of Frederick awards multiple college
scholarships, which are eligible for renewal for four years. Only
graduating seniors of Frederick County High Schools may apply. The
number of new scholarships awarded each year to graduating high school
students is determined by the number of scholarships renewed for
present recipients and the number of scholarship winners who graduate.
There will be at least three new scholarships available for the
2008-2009 academic year. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of
community service, financial need, and academic performance. The
amount of new awards for the 2008-2009 academic year is $2,000 each.
Each applicant must provide a confidential letter from a counselor or
other appropriate school representative with comments and
recommendations; an official transcript of courses completed and
grades earned, including the first semester of the 2007-2008 school
year, and appropriate class rank; a personal, typed letter addressed
to Kathleen Davis, Chairman, Rotary Scholarship Committee, stating the
applicant's ambitions, need for financial assistance, choice of
institution, field of study and information describing his/her school
and community service (handwritten letters are not acceptable); and a
confidential financial statement using the form furnished by the
scholarship committee. Applications and guidelines for The Rotary Club
of Frederick Fund scholarships can be
downloaded here.
Applications must be hand-delivered or postmarked no later than March
31, 2008, and mailed to Kathleen Davis, McLean, Koehler, Sparks &
Hammond, 70 Thomas Johnson Drive, Suite 100, Frederick, Maryland
21702. Applications postmarked after March 31, 2008 will not be
considered.
The Community Foundation of Frederick County is a leading
philanthropic organization providing grants to worthy nonprofit
organizations and scholarships to deserving students. Thanks to
generous donors who create new funds or add to existing funds, the
