Dick and Sue Basford with Community
Foundation Trustee Martin Lapera |
Basford Family Fund Opens at Community
Foundation
April 3, 2008: Lifelong Frederick
residents Dick and Sue Basford are committed to helping others achieve
their goals through education. Having successfully raised and educated
their three children Adam, Andrew, and Emily, they understand the
financial effort it takes to realize educational dreams.
As a retired partner in Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Dick says
that he and Sue, a career educator presently teaching part-time at
Yellow Springs Elementary School, know there are many challenges to
achieving an education, chief among them finding the financial
resources to complete post-secondary schooling. That first-hand
knowledge, coupled with a lifelong appreciation of the skilled trades
people who provide necessary everyday services to others, led the
Basfords to establish The Basford Family Fund at the Community
Foundation of Frederick County.
“We want to help people interested in pursuing a career in the trades
or technical arena who need financial help in accomplishing their
goals through education,” said the Basfords. “We are pleased to be
able to do so in a way that will impact the future of Frederick County
residents each and every day.”
The first scholarships from The Basford Family Fund will be awarded in
June.
Dick and Sue Basford are among the many generous citizens seeking to
create positive and lasting change through philanthropy by working
with the Community Foundation to create funds that provide
scholarships to deserving students and grants to area nonprofits
serving people in need. Because of the trust donors have placed in the
Community Foundation, over $17 million has been returned to the
Frederick County community since 1986.
Those interested in helping students interested in pursuing a career
in the trades or technical areas may make a secure online donation to
