New Scholarship Fund Remembers Linganore High School At Oakdale Student

February 23, 2009: Even at the very young age of 17, Jacob Hubble was making a mark on the world. An outgoing, friendly young man, he made friends easily, not just with his peers but with adults also. Jacob was a typical teenager, who loved listening to music and talking on his cell phone with friends.

This friendly, outgoing senior at Linganore High School at Oakdale was also involved in many activities. Jacob was a talented welder, winning the Frederick County Career and Technology Center’s 2008 regional title and placing seventh in the state competition. He was also an avid 4-H participant, preparing to show his steers and pigs at the 2008 Great Frederick Fair.

His mother, Sara Hubble, recalls that Jacob was always inquisitive by nature and asked questions about everything. “When he was little, I would call him the question man,” said Sara Hubble. “He always had to know how things worked.”

Jacob Hubble had a bright future ahead of him as he began his senior year on August 25, 2008 – he had many friends, activities he was passionate about, and a desire to achieve academic success. In fact, Jacob excelled in math and was scheduled to take a Calculus class at Frederick Community College while still attending high school.

Sadly, Jacob Hubble’s young life and his great potential to achieve his dreams ended in a car accident on August 25 on his way home from the first day of his senior year in high school.

His legacy of a life well lived is now commemorated in The Jacob W. Hubble Memorial Scholarship Fund at The Community Foundation of Frederick County. Seeking a meaningful way to remember their son, Sara and Barry Hubble created the Fund to award scholarships in Jacob’s name to support graduates of Linganore High School and Linganore High School at Oakdale who seek to achieve their dreams through education.

“We were so proud of Jacob and knew he was going places,” said the Hubbles reflecting on their son’s life. “Everything he set his mind to, he accomplished well. He had the gift to make it look effortless. We hope The Jacob W. Hubble Memorial Fund will help other students achieve the dream that could not be fulfilled by Jacob. Everyone deserves the chance to go as far in life as possible.”

Since 1986, generous citizens who want to make a difference in the lives of others have turned to the guidance and expertise of The Community Foundation of Frederick County to create charitable funds that support a variety of causes.
