$20,000 Raised at Julie Ann Robertson Cashour
Memorial Golf Tournament
July 23, 2009: More than 90 enthusiastic golfers turned out on June 12 to raise funds for the Community Foundation’s Julie Ann Robertson Cashour Memorial Fund. Because of their commitment to eradicating neurofibromatosis, the disease that took Julie’s life in 2001, $20,000 was raised at this year’s golf tournament held at Whiskey Creek Golf Club in Ijamsville.
“With the economy being what it is and the fact that attendance for this year’s tournament was down, we managed to maintain a level of generosity consistent with previous years. Quite simply, we are blessed,” said Jeff Robertson, Julie’s brother.
The annual Julie Ann Robertson Cashour Memorial Golf Tournament has raised an amazing $170,000 since it began nine years ago, adding to the memorial fund honoring Julie, whose brave battle with neurofibramotis ended at the age of 36.
The Fund has awarded grants benefiting many causes including the National Neurofibromatosis Foundation in New York, Kline Hospice House in Frederick, Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, the Brain Tumor Society, and Neurofibromatosis Mid-Atlantic, Inc. for Camp New Friends, this year’s recipient of a grant at the golf tournament. Camp New Friends provides opportunities for children affected by neurofibromatosis to build self-esteem, gain independence, and establish social connections with other children and staff who live with the condition.
“It’s been over nine years since Julie passed away, but her memory lives on by helping others through the Community Foundation’s Julie Ann Robertson Cashour Memorial Fund,” said Robertson. “The impact of her life and legacy is currently making an impact on the lives of others with NF, especially those children attending Camp New Friends. She would be extremely proud knowing that the lives of children have been made just a little bit better. “
