Golf Tournament to Benefit Community Foundation’s Muse Memorial Fund

May 18, 2009: The Second Annual Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Friday, June 26, at Musket Ridge Golf Course in Myersville to benefit The Community Foundation of Frederick County’s Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund.

Individual and super tickets are available for the event, which begins with registration and breakfast at 8:00 a.m. The shotgun start is at 9:30 a.m., and the day will culminate with an awards ceremony at 2:00 p.m. For additional information and to register, visit www.musememorial.com.

Sixteen-year-old Dustin Muse was a well-known and highly-regarded scholar-athlete at Governor Thomas Johnson High School when he and his thirteen-year-old sister, Courtney, an enthusiastic member of the Monacacy Middle School chorus and honor roll student, tragically died in a car accident in December, 2006.

The Community Foundation’s Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund was established by their parents, Pam Meehan and Don Muse, with generous contributions from a community who wanted to honor the legacy of these two exceptional children. The Fund provides scholarships and grants in Dustin’s name to Governor Thomas Johnson High School scholar-athletes, and scholarships and grants in Courtney’s name which support the performing arts. To date, more than $31,000 in scholarships and grants has been awarded from the Fund.

“We are so appreciative to be surrounded by wonderful family and friends that help support our efforts,” said Pam Meehan as she and Don prepare for the golf tournament to benefit the Fund. “Being able to provide financial help to students and families who have children that share the same love and commitment that Dustin and Courtney had for sports, academics, and music is a pleasure and a blessing for our families.”

Memorial funds are one of the many ways The Community Foundation of Frederick County transforms the unique charitable dreams of individuals, families and organizations into the reality of charitable funds supporting a range of worthy causes. Over one-fourth of the funds held by the Community Foundation honor the memories of deceased loved ones by continuing to touch lives in meaningful ways in their names. To date, the Community Foundation has provided more than $19 million in grants and scholarships throughout Frederick County.

Those who are unable to participate in the golf tournament, but who would like to make a contribution to The Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund, may make a secure online donation.  To do so, click here. Checks made payable to The Community Foundation of Frederick County with the Fund’s name inserted in the memo line may be mailed to 312 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
