Capitol Vein and Laser Center Continues Its Commitment to the Community

February 17, 2010: Dr. Paul McNeill and Dr. Garth Rosenberg approached The Community Foundation of Frederick County to create a scholarship fund for students studying medicine, nursing and other healthcare related professions. The two vascular surgeons have been working together since 2000 in their practice, Capitol Vein and Laser Center, which provides advanced care of vein disorders. Their practice is also a training center for visiting physicians desiring to treat venous diseases. Dr. McNeill has practiced in Frederick since 1994.

Dr. McNeill and Dr. Rosenberg know first-hand of the need for specially trained health care professionals. Their own years of studying to obtain their professional degrees and subsequent specialty training were numerous, with additional training always needed to stay current with new developments in vascular surgical care. They also know the importance of well-trained staff who continues to update their skills on the latest techniques and medical protocols.

“We are very grateful to the Frederick County community for its support of our practice. Recognizing the need to maintain a strong medical base for the region, we feel that helping to advance medical education for worthy students would help in this regard,” stated Dr. Rosenberg. Dr. McNeill added, “Giving back to the community is important to us. Creating the opportunity for others to pursue careers in health care will have lasting benefits.”

To help students study for healthcare professions, Dr. McNeill and Rosenberg created The Capitol Vein and Laser Center’s Health Professions Scholarship Fund with the Community Foundation. The Fund will award scholarships to Frederick County residents pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in medicine, nursing, and related medical disciplines. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must demonstrate financial need.

The Capitol Vein and Laser Center’s Health Professions Scholarship Fund will award two $5,000 scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year. Students interested in applying for this scholarship must use the Community Foundation’s Universal Comprehensive Scholarship Application, which can be downloaded from the Community Foundation’s website at www.cffredco.org. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by June 15.

The Community Foundation is the leading provider of general scholarship support in Frederick County. For more information on the Community Foundation, call 301-695-7660 or go to the website at www.cffredco.org.
