Casino and Auction Night to Benefit the Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund

April 7, 2010: “Casino and Auction Night”, a new event to raise money for The Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund of The Community Foundation of Frederick County will take place on June 12 at the Eventplex, located at the Frederick Fairgrounds.

Registration for the event is open and available by visiting www.musememorial.com.  Early registration is encouraged. The cost is $60 per person. Event and advertising sponsorships are also available, with details posted on the website. In addition to the website, information is also available by calling (301) 668-0877, or emailing pmmteacher@aol.com.

Sixteen-year-old Dustin Muse was a well-known and highly-regarded scholar-athlete at Governor Thomas Johnson High School when he and his thirteen-year-old sister, Courtney, an enthusiastic member of the Monacacy Middle School chorus and honor roll student, tragically died in a car accident in December, 2006.

The Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund was established with the Community Foundation by their parents, Pam Meehan and Don Muse, along with generous contributions from a community who wanted to honor the legacy of these two exceptional children. The Fund provides scholarships and grants in Dustin’s name to Governor Thomas Johnson High School scholar-athletes, and scholarships and grants in Courtney’s name which support the performing arts. To date, more than $48,000.00 in scholarships and grants has been awarded from the Fund.

“We are very excited about this new event to raise money for our fund,” said Pam Meehan and Don Muse. “Dustin and Courtney’s love and enthusiasm for the sports and music activities they participated in while here continues to guide us in our desire to provide financial help to others who enjoy and have similar interests. It’s been a blessing to our family and very healing to be able to give back to the community that has been overwhelmingly supportive.”

Those who are unable to participate in the Casino and Auction night but wish to help others in memory of Courtney and Dustin Muse may make a secure, online donation to The Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund. To do so, click here. Checks made payable to The Community Foundation of Frederick County, with the fund’s name inserted in the memo line, may be mailed to 312 East Church Street, Frederick, Maryland 21701.

Since 1986, The Community Foundation of Frederick County has provided more than $23 million in scholarships to area students who might otherwise not be able to attend college or trade school and grants to area nonprofits serving a variety of community needs. This tremendous accomplishment is a direct result of generous donors who touch the future with each donation, leaving a positive impact of lasting change for the Frederick County community.
