Accepting
Music Instruction Scholarship Applications through May 28
March 24, 2010: Now
through May 28, 2010, students five to eighteen years old pursuing
vocal or instrumental music instruction may apply for scholarships
through two specific funds held by The Community Foundation of
Frederick County.
The Sperry L. Storm Memorial Scholarship is available for Frederick
County Public Schools students in kindergarten through 11th grade for
training in vocal or instrumental music performance. The scholarship
is made possible through The Sperry L. Storm Memorial Scholarship
Fund, which honors the memory of Mr. Storm, a well-known Frederick
County musician who taught music privately for nearly 50 years and
worked as a public school music educator for 35 years. Scholarships
are for private instruction only.
The Courtney Muse Music Scholarship aids elementary, middle, and high
school students in Frederick County who are pursuing vocal or
instrumental music performance. Consideration will also be given to
five to eighteen year olds taking private lessons to further career
opportunities in these fields. The scholarship honors the memory of
Courtney Muse, a member of the Monocacy Middle School Chorus, pianist,
and musical theater enthusiast who died in a car accident, along with
her brother Dustin, in December 2006. The scholarship is made possible
through The Dustin and Courtney Muse Memorial Fund.
The music scholarship application can be downloaded from the
scholarship page of the Community Foundation’s web site at
www.cffredco.org. Only one
application is needed to apply for either of the two scholarships
offered.
Click here to access the application on the website. Applications
must be received (not postmarked) no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday,
May 28, 2010.
