Unless otherwise
noted, all scholarships listed are for full-time students who
are Frederick County, Maryland residents and are based upon
a balance of academic promise, community service, extra-curricular
activities, financial need, and character. The Community Foundation’s
Scholarship Committee reviews all applications and makes its
scholarship recommendations to the Community Foundation’s Board
of Trustees for its final approval. All applicants are notified of the outcome by June 15th.

graduating seniors who will be attending any four-year college to study
the sciences and are intending to pursue a career in healthcare with preference
given to those desiring to become medical doctors, but those aspiring
to careers in the allied health professions shall also be considered.

The Bob and Elizabeth Boyer Scholarship Fund
Founded by the Boyers
Criteria: Recipients preferably reside in Frederick or Washington
Counties and are pursuing careers in a health related profession,
working with the elderly in a direct-care or advocacy capacity, the ministry,
and/or agriculture with the intention of farming. Priority is
given to applicants who are active in their faith, who have been
employed to save money to help pay for college, who have volunteered in community service
above the high school requirements, pursuing
higher education to continue a career ladder, and non-traditional students.
Applicants must be lower middle income or lower bracket.

Dudrow Scholarship Fund
Founded by Mrs. Dorothy Dudrow and her children
Criteria: Recipients must be at least of sophomore standing
in college at the time of application; have a minimum 2.75 GPA; studying in any area
of agriculture, animal sciences, botany, food sciences, human development, forestry, horticulture, natural
resources management, soil conservation, and/or pre-veterinary medicine.
Preference is given to students of families deriving their income from
farming or a related-agricultural activity. The scholarship will be awarded
to a non-farm family if no qualified student with a farm background
has applied.

The Dinah Duncan Memorial/Brunswick High School Bandboosters Scholarship

Criteria: Recipients must be Brunswick High School graduating
seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA who actively participated in Marching Band

Mary Ellen Main Scholarship Fund
Founded through a bequest from Mrs. Main to support scholarships for
Frederick County residents
Criteria: Recipients must demonstrate good character,
financial need and
academic promise, but do not necessarily have to be in the top tier of
their class academically.

The Chief Charles V. Main Scholarship Fund
Founded by friends and family in honor of Mr. Main’s 90th birthday
Criteria: Recipients must be pursuing a career in criminal
justice or public safety.

The Markey Scholarship Fund
Founded by Mary Alice Markey’s friends and family in honor of her 90th
birthday
Criteria: Recipients must be pursuing a four-year degree
in education or art. Scholarship is based primarily upon financial need
and is renewable for up to four years if a 2.5 GPA is maintained.

The David G. Marshall Memorial Scholarship Fund
Founded by his family and Frederick Aviation
Criteria: Recipients must be pursuing a career in the aviation
industry and must have a 3.0 GPA.

Founded by Dr. and Mrs. Martin
Criteria: Recipients must be Frederick High School graduates
enrolled at Hood College.

The Millard “Mick” Mastrino Memorial Scholarship Fund
Founded by Melvin F. Danner in memory of Mr. Mastrino
Criteria: Recipients must be Frederick High School graduates
with preference given to students who were born in Frederick County, who
are members of Evangelical Lutheran Church, located in Frederick, who
are affiliated with United Steam Fire Engine Company Number 3, Frederick
County Fire and Rescue Service and/or other organized fire and rescue
departments within Frederick County, and who are interested in a career
in public service, public safety and/or culinary arts.

The Mary Ann Moschel Memorial Scholarship Fund
Founded by Dr. Robert C. Moschel, in memory of his wife, in collaboration
with The Frederick County Association of Counseling and Development
Criteria: Recipients must be graduating seniors pursuing
a degree in counseling, psychology, education or human services. Scholarship
is based upon commitment to pursuing a career in a “people helping” profession
and academic excellence with a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

Foundation and an essay stating career objective and intentions to mentor
and help others when they become a professional.
The Jessica Lee Murphy Memorial Fund
Founded by her parents, Don and Sue Murphy, with memorial contributions
from family and friends
Criteria: Recipients must be Governor Thomas Johnson High
School graduating seniors who excel in sports and academics, exhibit a
safe driving record, and are continuing their education at a two-year
or four-year college. Scholarship is based upon participation in varsity
sports their senior year, with preference given to volleyball players,
academics, volunteerism, financial need, and a safe driving record.

Criteria: Recipients must be Frederick High School
graduating seniors planning to attend the four-year college or
university of their choice and having a grade point average no greater
than 3.5 on a 4.0 scale

The Garrett R. Petronchak
Memorial Scholarship Fund
Founded by his mother, Peggy Waxter
Criteria: Recipients must be graduating seniors who participate
in alcohol prevention and education activities with preference given to
ATOD-free (alcohol, tobacco and other drug-free) athletes.

Foundation and must include a letter of reference
from the Drug Free Schools Facilitator, SHOP Sponsor or Alcohol Prevention Sponsor,
Substance Abuse Coordinator, or School Official (guidance counselor, principal, class advisor).
The Ada B. Poole Scholarship Fund
Founded by an anonymous donor in honor of Mrs. Poole’s positive impact
on her students
Criteria: Recipients must be Walkersville High School graduating
seniors with plans to attend a four-year college, with preference given
to English, literature or education majors.

Rev. Dr. Rodney B. Pulliam and Rodney II, Jordan, and Matthew Pulliam
Memorial Fund
Founded by Tammie A. Pulliam in memory of her husband and sons with

must be active in their faith-based organizations and involved in their
community, with special preference given to those who are pursuing a
career in the ministry, law or medicine.

Memorial Scholarship Fund
Founded by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Elizabeth S.
Rice
Criteria: Recipients must be studying at either McDaniel
College or University of Maryland at College Park and may be in their
first year through graduate school.

The Barry D. Richardson Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Visual Arts
Founded by Shirley and Kathryn Richardson in memory of their husband
and father
Criteria: Recipients must attend Frederick Community College,
exhibit artistic talent, and take at least nine credit hours, with preference
given to visual arts, including art education, art therapy, graphic design,
and photography majors.

Criteria: Recipients must be graduates of Walkersville High
School with preference given to students majoring in early childhood education,
specifically kindergarten through third grade, and agriculture.

The Winfield Scott Rodney,
IV, Memorial Scholarship Fund
Founded by Dr.
Sonja Rossig in memory of her son
Criteria: Recipients
must be attending a college, university, or trade or technical school.
Preference is given those who are striving to become
self-sufficient despite disabilities and obstacles they may have, have
completed rehabilitation at the Frederick Rescue Mission and now
attending Frederick Community College, and to those who are ages 17
through 22 who are or were involved in foster care, have been diagnosed
with Type I Juvenile Diabetes, and/or have disabilities as defined
within the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Special consideration is given computer science majors.

The Michael Schrodel Memorial
Scholarship Fund
Founded by his family and his parents, David and Diana Schrodel
Criteria: Recipients must be Walkersville High School graduating
seniors with preference given to football players; however, other student
athletes may be considered if no senior football players meet the scholarship
criteria. Scholarships are based upon the ability to take direction from
supervisors and coaches, sportsmanship, and the ability to pursue goals
on and off the playing field.

The
James R. Seek, Jr. Memorial Fund
Founded
by Amy J. Seek in memory of her late husband
Criteria: Recipients
must be graduates of
Frederick High School, Urbana High School, and/or Tuscarora High School
who are strong “B” students. Scholarships
are based upon good character and kindness of spirit.
Special consideration shall be given to students with learning
disabilities.

The C. Eugene Shaff, Jr., Memorial Scholarship Fund
Founded by Laura Jean Shaff in memory of her husband
Criteria: Recipients must be graduates of Frederick County
Public Schools majoring in a scientific field, such as physics, biology
and chemistry.

The Shangri-La Detachment Marine Corps League Scholarship Fund
Founded by Shangri-La Detachment Marine Corps League
Criteria: Recipients are preferably members of the Shangri-La
Detachment Marine Corps League, blood relatives of a member of the Shangri-La
Detachment Marine Corps League, and/or Frederick County, Maryland residents
who are blood relatives of current or former Marines.

Foundation and a copy of Form #DD214, along with a description of the
Marine’s relationship to the applicant.

Criteria: Recipients
must be attending Frederick Community College or University of Maryland
at any campus, with preference given to, but not limited to, students of
Iranian birth.

Gary F. Smith Memorial Music Scholarship Fund
Founded by Jeanne P. Smith in memory of her husband
Criteria: Recipients must be Governor Thomas Johnson High
School graduating seniors who are music majors with primary consideration
given to instrumentalists, and secondary consideration given to vocalists.

Criteria: Recipients must be pursuing a degree from an
accredited college or university. Scholarships are renewable for up

University Dental School. Preference shall be given to Frederick County
residents.

Recipients must be Brunswick High School graduates who are

Martha Murphy Virts Nursing Scholarship Fund
Founded by Edgar Virts in memory of his mother
Criteria: Recipients
must be pursuing a degree or certification in nursing, with preference
given to students studying at Frederick Community College, intending
to work in long-term care facilities with persons with disabilities
and/or dementia or with the elderly, and/or beginning at the bottom
levels of the nursing career ladder, such as receiving their
certification as a geriatric or nursing assistant.
